William S. Cole

William Cole: Lawyer Profile

William S. Cole was born in Gallipolis, Ohio and educated at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science. He then went on to earn his law degree from Cleveland State University’s Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. Attorney Cole received bar admissions to practice in Ohio (1977), U.S. District Court Southern District of Ohio (1980), and U.S. Supreme Court (1986). He is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association and the American Bar Association.

As an associate with the firm of Oths, Foley & Heiser in Wellston, Ohio, Attorney Cole began practicing law in 1978. In 1982, he earned partner at Oths, Foley & Heiser. Before opening his own law office, Cole served as a partner with Ochsenbein & Cole, 1983-1986; Ochsenbein, Cole & Lewis, 1986-1996; and Cole & Lewis, 1996-2000. In addition to private practice, he also served as Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for Jackson County, Ohio from 1983-1996.

Attorney Cole has been a member of the Ohio Supreme Court Commission on Certification of Attorneys and Specialists from 1998-2000, and he currently serves as a board member with Junior Achievement of Jackson County, Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce, and is a member of the Jackson Rotary Club. He also taught the seminar “Legal Update 2001 for Small Town Attorneys” at the Athens County, Ohio Bar Association.

Joseph D. Kirby

Joe Kirby: Lawyer Profile

Joseph D. Kirby is licensed to practice law in all Ohio State Courts and in the Federal Court of the Southern District of Ohio.  Attorney Kirby has been practicing law since 1991. He is a graduate of Miami University and the University of Toledo, College of Law.  While his office is in Jackson County, he regularly practices in many counties in southeastern Ohio. He has provided legal services for many business owners in the area and is regular counsel for businesses in Jackson, Gallia, Athens, Meigs, Scioto, Vinton, Pike and Ross counties. Mr. Kirby also is the legal counsel for the City of Jackson and provides legal counsel to the city on a variety of municipal issues, including finances, employment relations and litigation. 

Charles A. Kirby

Charles A. Kirby: Lawyer Profile

Charles A. Kirby has been practicing law since November 2004. Attorney Kirby is a graduate of The Ohio State University and Capital University Law School.  Kirby entered into private practice directly out of law school and also served as an Assistant City Solicitor and City Prosecutor for the City of Portsmouth, Ohio from November 2004 until March 2006.  Prior to the formation of Cole, Kirby & Associates, Kirby served as a Staff Attorney for the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation for approximately eight years, and also served a dual role as an interim Claims Management Supervisor for the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation from July 2010 to April 2011. 

Attorney Kirby has prosecuted hundreds of misdemeanor criminal and traffic offenses in the Portsmouth Municipal Court as a former City Prosecutor.  Kirby has also argued thousands of administrative hearings in front of the Industrial Commission of Ohio, and is well versed in Ohio Workers’ Compensation law.  As a general practitioner, Attorney Kirby is involved in business, probate, and family law matters, and regularly serves as a Guardian ad Litem for the Scioto County Domestic Relations and Scioto County Juvenile Courts.
